Welcome Home Grangie - The Most Extra Adoption Shower Ever
Since I was a little girl, I DREAMED about having a French Bulldog. Its name would be Pancakes – because when he/she sat down, it would look like a stack of pancakes (duh!). Unfortunately, as much as I tried to convince my parents to surprise me with a pup for my 25th birthday, I was unsuccessful. Not being one to wait around, I decided that if I wanted a furry friend, I’d have to take matters into my own hands. Before I knew it, I was signing paperwork at the Bradshaw Animal Shelter to foster my new best friend.
When I brought home my sweet Senior Granger,I was over the moon. He was an 11-year-old Pitbull mix - definitely a “big dog who’s convinced he’s a small dog” (I know I’m squealing too). Our first family dog, Crystal, was a black lab who was high maintenance, full of energy, and always bouncing off the walls. But, Granger was different. He had the sweetest demeanor and clearly had mastered the puppy eyes. Since he’s an older dog, he was pretty well trained. In a nutshell, he was perfect (he is perfect – don’t worry there)
It was only a few weeks before my whole family was in love, but when I brought up adoption, I was always met with a stern, “No.” BUT, I was persistent. I felt like I was 10 years old again, on a mission to convince my parents to let me keep this adorable bundle of joy. This time though, I had different tools in my belt. I decided that I was going to treat my dad like a client (shoutout to years of tech consulting for the inspiration) and just like that the communication began. After a week of back and forth emails, research, and relentless determination – HE SAID YES.
We officially signed the papers a few weeks ago but in classic Avni fashion, I had to throw him a welcome home party/adoption shower! I tapped into my event planning expertise and put together a lovely day filled with good conversations, great food, and amazing company. Some of my favorite features were the v extra invites I made, homemade treats for the BARKcuterie board, and PUPtinis.
Grangie was one lucky pup and definitely had the most amazing time at his special day. He usually sleeps for hours during the day but this day, he didn’t even sleep for one. The excitement was paramount and he kept getting showered with treats, pets, and gifts. I know it might sound crazy to do all of this for a dog but that’s the thing about me - I don’t discriminate between celebrating for humans, animals, or even things (goals, accomplishments, seasons, etc.). It’s probably part of the zest and finding everything and everyone in life just so worthy of all the love. And they are!
